How Your Non-profit Can Increase Donations During the Holiday Season

Shantha Wetterhan • December 8, 2016

Are you looking for ways to increase your nonprofit’s donations during this holiday season ?

Not only is the holiday season officially underway, but so is the time for end of the year giving. The month of December is the most critical time of the year for your nonprofit organization. A significant amount of donors wait until this time of the year to give. This is an excellent time to convert prospects who are most likely in the holiday spirit, into new donors.

According to stats from Blackbaud.com, nearly 20% of all annual online donations are made in December and donors tend to give 80% larger gifts during this month. Because of numbers like these, your nonprofit should invest time and effort into launching a solid holiday fundraising campaign. But, it’s one thing to launch a campaign and it’s another thing to actively promote it in a way that attracts attention and donations.

Here are 5 ways you can promote your holiday fundraising campaign, starting now.

Focus on Your Website – Create a bold and enticing call to action on the home page of your website. Having an easy way for visitors to give will increase those holiday donations. If you are taking donations on your website, you may want to contact your agent regarding cyber liability insurance.

Launch an Effective Email Marketing Campaign Email marketing for nonprofits has been around for a while. When it comes to your holiday donation campaign,  email remains one of the most worthwhile marketing tools available. During a time of the year when everyone is watching the bottom line, email marketing can help your nonprofit communicate with supporters and prospects in a cost effective way.

Use Your Newsletter to Get Donors Onboard Your nonprofit’s newsletter can be a powerful   tool that leads to more donations during this holiday season. Consistency is key here, so remember to keep your newsletter primarily about your mission, rather than primarily appealing for holiday fundraising.

Say Thank You ASAP – Gratitude is powerful. Prepare acknowledgments in advance and have them ready to go out ASAP. Don’t leave this until after you return from vacation. It’s important to have thank you letters out within one week of the donation arriving in your office. Set up systems now to save time later.

Create Holiday Cover Photos for Social Media Get your brand into the spirit by revamping your image on social media platforms. Change your profile picture to something holiday related and give your cover or header photo a holiday inspired facelift.
