9 Types of Church Insurance

admin • September 7, 2016

Although church insurance is very important, it’s necessary to note that it isn’t something to just jump into without doing your research.  There are numerous factors that come into play when deciding on what coverage you should be shopping for.  Some of these insurances you may not even be familiar with.

The following list of insurance coverages all meet the unique needs of most churches and will play a major role in protecting your finances and personnel.

Property Insurance:

This insurance covers church-owned buildings and personal property for either basic, broad or special causes of loss.

General Liability:

This insurance protects the church as well as clergy, elected or appointed officials, employees, and volunteers against claims of negligence involving bodily injury and property damage.

Professional Liability:

This is coverage for counseling such as church educators.  It also covers employee benefits, employment practices, and incidental medical services.

Business Crime Insurance:

This protects the religious establishment from losses like theft, forgery, and embezzlement.

Pastoral Professional Liability:

This policy covers against damages from church members who were negatively impacted by a pastor/priest’s counseling.

Workers’ Compensation:

Most property and liability policies exclude work-related accidents and injuries from the list of what they cover. In this case, a workers’ compensation insurance policy is your only resource and most states require this.

Commercial Automobile Insurance:

This covers liability protection, uninsured and under-insured motorists coverage, and collision and comprehensive coverage.

Non-Owned & Hired Auto   Liability:

This highly recommended auto liability insurance covers bodily injury and property damage caused by a vehicle you hire (including rented or borrowed vehicles) or caused by non-owned vehicles (vehicles owned by others, including vehicles owned by your employees).

Umbrella Liability Insurance:

This provides higher limits of insurance for your general, automobile and counseling liability exposures.
